Escaping the tractor beam of Strongholds

Updated: Dec 29, 2018

There’s no turning back once you allow yourself to step over the threshold of a tractor beam. Fight as you may, you’re being pulled in at a greater force than you can muster. That is if you are going alone and have not prepared for the moment. Matthew 26:41 tells us, “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” It’s one thing to dislike being under the grip of a stronghold but you have to want to give up a stronghold. Let me ask you. Do you hate your stronghold because it’s gotten out of hand? Because it causes you grief from time to time? Or do you hate your stronghold because you know it is against God and grieves Him? Are you at a place where you want to give up but you can’t? Every time you try, you allow yourself to get close to it and BAM!! The tractor beam grabs a hold of you and there you go again getting pulled in at a greater force than you can muster. In the process we say, just this one more time. If I do it again maybe I’ll be stronger against it next time. I know it won’t please God but I’ll get it over with and then ask for forgiveness. Well, this is the way my body was made and so God will understand.

God addresses this very thing in 1 Corinthians 10:13.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Looking at this scripture it’s clear that God does know what we are going through and further, we are not alone. Don’t be afraid to bring it up to another brother in Christ. Satan wants us to be all alone and isolated, wandering around despondent ripe for his tractor beam. Convincing us that we are hopeless and that there is no way we could ever break the hold. And satan is right. Standing against him without the Lord and a fellow brother, you and I are helpless. Remember, God’s word (Matthew 18:20) says that wherever two are gathered in Christ, He is with them. And Romans 8:31 says that if God is for us, who can stand against us. Like the scripture above says, God will provide for you a way of escape when temptation comes against you so that you will be able to endure it.

Guys, we need God and we need each other. AND we need to WANT to defeat the stronghold.

If you have confessed Jesus as Lord, you have the Holy Spirit within you, now you need to give yourself completely over to the Holy Spirit. We need a trusted brother that we can talk to to help us decide and recognize the threshold of the reach of the tractor beam. And then, we need to stay out of it’s reach. Let God be your stronghold!!

We can do it. Average guy ministries is here to give support when you need it. Drop us an email or join our virtual small group. And hey, if you would like to know more about confessing Jesus as Lord, then for sure, send me an email at SteveZ@averageguyministries.com
