Good Friday

What's so good about it?

If you stand at Palm Sunday looking forward and stopping at the torture, crucifixion, and death of Jesus, there is nothing good about Holy Friday. However, if you are standing here today and looking back to Resurrection Sunday, then Holy Friday is good indeed.

Jesus came to earth to do the will of the Father by dying on the cross in payment for all sin, past, present and future. The Father does not do anything that is not righteous, true, or good. When Jesus fulfilled the will of the Father, that was good.

Jesus needed to die so that He could be resurrected. Why? So that death would be defeated.

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:55

Why such a brutal death? So we could never say we had it worse than He did. Did you notice as you read through the 4 gospel accounts of Holy week that through all the ridicule, pain, suffering, and death Jesus never betrayed His odedience to the Father nor did He sin. If He had we might say He isn't to be blamed but if He had He would not be able to judge everyone's circumstance as one who knows. We have a judge who can empathize with our situations and that is good.

The Father's will was done and eternal death was defeated, which is also good.

The Father's plan is good. Consider the following scripture verses.

"but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Gen 2:17

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. "

John 3:16.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. " John 5:24.

"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Romans 10:9.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:20-21.

“In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.”

"Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation." 2 Corinthians 6:2.

If you have never embraced these truths whole heartily nor admitted that you have been living a life without recognizing the gift that God has given to you in Jesus, you can do that right now. You can have life with Jesus. You can be saved from an eternity without God. To receive the gift you just need to agree to take it. God loves you and He wants you to receive the gift He offers.

Take a deep breath and talk to God. Admit that you have been living a life that falls short of fully embracing Him. You have been more focused on fulfilling your desires and needs and in this way you have sinned against Him. Tell him you wish to turn away from those selfish ways and toward Him to follow His ways. Ask Him to forgive you and to guide you into a life lived for Him. Pray through each scripture verse listed above and ask Him to give you full understanding of how to live your life for Him. Admit to Him that you believe Jesus died for your sins to be forgiven, He was resurrected from the dead, and you believe He is Lord of Lords.

If you have just prayed this prayer, I want to welcome you into God's family of confessed followers of Jesus. The next step is to find a church of Bible believing Christians to fellowship with. Sunday is Easter, go celebrate. You need also to pray and read scripture regularly to strengthen your commitment to Jesus.

If you need help with your next step or finding a church please email me, or call
