Independence Day

Updated: 5 days ago

July 4th.

The Declaration of Independence.

The Birthday of the United States.

A time to realize the freedoms we truly have.

Celebrating with each other.

Remembering we got here because we realized we’re all in this together.

Independence from a monarchy, dictator, or power which doesn’t give us the right to say what we think.

We the people as a group have that right.

Coming together to determine what’s best for all and not claiming individual rights over each other.

But imagine, if we all were free to do whatever we wanted to do for ourselves.

We would become slaves to each others wishes ending in chaos and survival of the fittest.

Independence would evaporate.

We might end up looking at each other as intruders of our space, idiots, undesirable.

We might stop waving to and talking to neighbors, even hating those driving in front or around us.

Isolating ourselves.

Becoming, we the persons dwelling on freedoms we don’t have. Becoming slaves to each others wishes and demands.

Is God right when He instructs us to treat others as we want to be treated? To love our neighbors as we love ourself?

To be all one people instead of a group of persons?
