Where Does Good and Evil Come From?

Does it make you shrug your shoulders or want to dig in and find out more?

So, what did you come up with since our first post on this subject?

Are we inherently good at heart? Or are we inherently evil?

How did God create us?

We know there is evil in the world, but why? Where did it come from? And why is it in you?

Let’s get to the bottom of this?

When did it all start?

The Bible starts, In the beginning, God. (Genesis Chapter One)

God said it and it was created and after it was created God said it was good. If it wasn’t good, like Adam being alone and needing Eve, God fixed it right away. By the time all creation was in place God thought it was all very good and good enough to take rest.

Genesis 1:31

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

John 1:3

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Colossians 1:16

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

So God’s creation is good. But what about God? What is God’s nature?

Isaiah 6:3

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Revelation 4:8

Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty,

who was, and is, and is to come.

Deuteronomy 32:4

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

James 1:13-14

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.

Habakkuk 1:13

Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

So where does Evil come into the picture?

The master of evil, better known as satan, where did he come from? If God created all things by the end of Genesis chapter one and declared them all very good then where does satan come from when he makes his appearance in Genesis chapter 3 verse 1? God had to have created him.

Isaiah 45:7

I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.

Proverbs 16:4

The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

So, what does God have to say about this?

Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Romans 11:33

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

And?? What do you have to say about it?

Does it make you shrug your shoulders or want to dig in and find out more? Are you thinking that your sin really is no big deal because God must allow it? So who cares?

Here’s my advice. Read through these scriptures. Pray to understand these scriptures. Dig in to your Bible and find more answers. Share what find.

Stay tuned, we’ll talk more next week.
